  2. Interesting facts that I came across in Annual Reports in Africa and John Suttons (Enterprise Maps) work this week:

    Zimbabwe has 7 metre square of formal retail space per 1000 population (vs 94 square meters in Botswana and 150 sq. metres in South Africa)

    Four out of five diversified groups in Tanzania were started by people of Indian origin (Sumaria Group, by K.P.Shah, Mac Group K.J.Manek, Motisun Holdings by Mr S.M. Patel, hats off to Gujratis)

    Azam brand Tanzania controls 70% share of wheat flour market.

    Senior Management for some of the MNCs is based in Kenya or Nigeria for smaller countries like Zimbabwe or Tanzania.

    Absence of water, electricity, road, rail, infra, reliable volumes is a recurring theme.
